Kratos’ Story
The God of War franchise tells the tragic and violent story of the warrior Kratos and his dealings with the gods. The ancient world would eventually both praise and damn the infamous ‘Ghost of Sparta’ as the mortal who slayed a god, but long before his battle with Ares, Kratos sought absolution from his past sins by pledging himself as a champion to the gods. These brutal crusades in the name of Olympus became legendary, but would have far-reaching consequences. In Chains of Olympus Kratos is pushed to the edge as he is ordered by the gods to journey to the very depths of the underworld after the world plunges into darkness. There he must face the most feared creatures of Greek mythology and is forced to choose between his own personal redemption and saving the ancient world from certain destruction. It is a choice that will shake the immortals from their perches on Mt. Olympus.

God of War's Epic Gameplay Comes to the PSP
PlayStation Portable has always been head and shoulders above its competitors in the handheld market when it comes to processing power, and in God of War: Chains of Olympus the PSP platform may just have reached its highest level to date. Packed with features like dramatic camera angles, epic set pieces, cinematic cut scenes, stirring audio and seamless fast action gameplay, formerly only available on console platforms Chains of Olympus binds players to the game’s epic adventure, regardless where they are when they join in the action.

Combat Moves, Both Old and New
Nearly as defining as the name of Kratos itself, the trademark sweeping attack moves of the ‘Ghost of Sparta’ using his weapon of choice the ‘Blades of Chaos,’ epitomizes all God of War games and Chains of Olympus is no exception.

Although overall the PSP has fewer buttons than the PlayStation 2 controller, developer Ready at Dawn Studios has managed to incorporate nearly all of the attack moves and combination moves from previous games in the series into this new project. This continuity in gameplay not only provides a seamless intro into the game for veteran players, but a gentle learning curve for players new to the series. Add to this new brutal combat moves and an additional upgradable weapon and you have a combat system that will engage players at all levels.

Exploration and Puzzle Solving
From the bright gates of Attica to the darkest dungeons of Tartarus, Kratos’ journey and your own will take you through the dark and brutal world of Greek mythology. Here not only will your skill with the Blades of Chaos be tested, but your wits as well.

As you explore the dangers of the ancient world, players must be prepared to use their navigational skills as they press on through labyrinths of challenging puzzles. Some may be simple tests at manipulating the game’s environment to your advantage, while others much more difficult also requiring precision timing of moves, but each will be different and test you in new ways.

An Evolution in Franchise History
More than just a missing piece in the history of the God of War franchise, Chains of Olympus also serves as an evolutionary link between the origins of the God of War franchise and its future. Originally developed for PlayStation 2, the future of the franchise is slated to make its arrival on PlayStation 3 in the form of the highly anticipated God of War III in the not too distant future. Not only is PlayStation Portable designed to work in unison with PlayStation 3 in many ways, but both long-time fans and newcomers to the series who choose to watch and play Chains of Olympus carefully may very well pick up clues as to the direction the franchise will be heading in with God of War III.

Regardless, whether you find yourself playing for the current chapter in Kratos’ saga or preparing yourself for the battles to come on the PlayStation 3, God of War: Chains of Olympus is a must have title for any current owner of a PSP or those considering getting in the handheld game with one.

A Real Man's Portable Game! (2009-04-20)
This is one of best psp games i own. It looks fantastic and is great to pick up for some hack'n slash fun. This is a "Man's Portable Game" because its got tatas, blood, and violence and thats all a man needs. Now he can take it anywhere he goes.

Virgins... (2009-04-04)
Virgin geek gamers are the only explanation I can think of for why this is so highly rated. He has sex with two chicks early on and then later they show b o o b s with actual detailed nipples. Sure it's a big leap for game nudity but come on people, it's on a little PSP.

The game itself was so short, cheap, easy and repetitive that I felt like it was originally created for cell phone use. I lost interest eventually and returned it to Game Stop for a full refund. That was the only good thing about it. Yes.

Crap.

Amazing!!! (2009-03-16)
agree with another reviewer who said that this game = tomb raider + tekken + greek mythology,
it is definitely the best psp game.
the graphics is superb and exploits all the power of the psp.
the gameplay is perfect.
there are frenetic actions with battles and fights, followed up by scenes in which you must think to find an escape route.
I wait future versions of this game

A short ride, but one of the best you'll find on the PSP. (2009-02-16)
I have to admit: I didn't have too much faith in the game when it first came out. While it did have God of War in the title and feel, it seemed like a daunting task to deliver a game with such an epic scope and polish as its console brethren had. Well I've eaten my words: GoW: Chains of Olympus is quite possibly the best title the PSP has seen to date (maybe period).

It manages to capture the brutality and smoothness of the console titles, plus maintain its own originality. Chains of Olympus doesn't feel like a poorly built toss-in to cash in on the name, it has a well defined identity as the lost chapter in Kratos' life that really makes the player understand the anger and madness of the fallen champion of Olympus.

Given the PSP's limitations in terms of controls (namely the lack of a second analog stick and the pain large hands will feel playing on this for too long), Chains of Olympus plays really well. The biggest weakness GoW suffers from is that it is extremely short. You could quite possibly blow through the game in roughly five hours.

It's kind of hard for me to really recommend this game at full price due to how really, really short it is but without hesitation it is a must play, most especially if you're a God of War fan.

God of War: Chains of Olympus (2009-02-08)
Very good game. This is the first full God of War game I have played. It has made me go back and purchase the other games so that I can be ready for when God of War III comes out. The camera angles stick every now and then, but not a problem as it corrects itself very quickly. This game is especially fun to play when the PSP is hooked up to a TV to get a bigger picture, but the PSP screen is more than effecient for this game.

oops!! (2009-02-13)
This is a great product. It reduces glare and protects the screen from scratches. It also cuts down on the amount of dust on your screen.

My only complaint is to make sure that you apply the protective filter the right way the first time. You wont have a second shot at it.
Also, make sure your screen is as clean as humanly possible before applying it. Any spec of dust will show up and will become a nusance quickly.

If you peel it up to resituate the filter be super carefull!!!!! Don't do what I did and drop it. I got dog hair all over it. I was unable to get all the debris of so I threw it away and bought a new one.

N.G. Protective Filter (2009-02-02)
This filter creates air bubbles that are impossible to press out. It also slides easily if you touch the screen. Lastly, you only receive one filter for the price. I would definitely steer clear of this protective filter.

BAD PRODUCT!!!!! (2009-01-14)
Okay, where to start:

Pros:
1)You get a little hanky thing inside.

Cons:
I tried to get my product, and what did I find? A sticker. On the little screen. I tried to take it off. I managed, just barely. But....I still had that sticky and half paper on my screen protector. All I got out of it was a little hanky, not bad for cleaning, yet not worth $5. I heard this was an EXCELLENT product, so I was very disapointed.

It has a sticker on top, gives you only ONE[!!!!] screen protector which will easily break, and also it has a sticker on it - which is way to sticky. I barely managed to get it off, and in the end, it didn't really help.

Great product (2009-01-12)
Although I did not purchase these directly from Amazon this time around because I found them cheaper on Ebay, I have to still write a review since I saw some saying negative about these...
The ones I purchased were all in Chinese language instructions except for the tabs on the protective film.
However the pictures were pretty self explanatory.

Just remember to clean your psp screen with some eye glass cleaner and a lint free cloth first.
Then apply by removing tab marked one and place this surface down on the psp...As you apply you can gently press your finger or use the card board piece they give to you to smooth out the air bubbles if any occur.
Once its in place then remove the top piece by pulling on Tab 2.
I had no problem applying it and you can't even tells its on.

Great product.

Very Good Value (2009-01-12)
I bought this for my son's brand new PSP. My adult nephew was able to affix it to the screen fairly easily. There was just one tiny bubble at the corner but it looks great!

The third game in Sony's Resistance franchise, and designed exclusively for PlayStation Portable, Resistance: Retribution is a third-person perspective shooter that continues the story of humanity's battle against the alien-like Chimera and the biological terror they threaten the world with. Set in an alternate Earth history, circa 1951, the game takes place between the events of PlayStation 3 blockbusters Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2. In this game world, although WWII never happened, mass destruction on a worldwide scale remains humanity's fate, and retribution against and eventual conquest of the Chimera are the player's goals.

New Story, New Anti-hero
Resistance: Retribution follows the story of former British Marine, James Grayson. A veteran of the struggle against the Chimera in Britain following their conquest of the European continent, he did not escape those battles unwounded. Months prior to his entrance into the game, while leading an attack on a Chimera conversion facility--locations where humans are changed into monstrous slaves serving the Chimera--he was forced to kill his own brother in order to keep him from turning into one of these abominations. Following this Grayson goes on a vendetta to destroy every conversion center he can find, eventually even deserting his unit to fulfill his lust for revenge, a crime which he would be locked up for. Unfortunately, for all his compulsion, success and sacrifice Grayson learns that his efforts have been futile. In Western Europe the Chimera have evolved a new method of converting humans, one about which nearly nothing is known. Aware of his experience with the Chimera, the European resistance--the Maquis--enlist Grayson's help, and he joins Cartwright and Parker in Operation Overstrike, and so the war to retake the European continent and the game begins.

Advanced Targeting and Cover System
With easy access to a weapons inventory, reloading commands, intel and player movement options, gameplay in Resistance: Retribution is easy to pick up and generally similar to many third-person shooters on the PSP platform, but two things also make it a stand out, its advanced targeting and cover system. Unlike many other games that limit players to manual firing, Resistance: Retribution gives players the option of aim assist. Accessible quickly through the options menu, this allows players the choice of automatically locking on to the closest enemy target, to target manually or toggle between the two. Similarly, unlike other games that require you to push a button to lock you to a piece of game environment to be used as cover, here that is automatic. Just walk up to to a wall or ledge and Grayson will duck behind it automatically and will stay ducked even as he creeps from side to side. And since aim assist is constantly active you are also able to time your fire and weapon switching from the safety of cover.

Key Game Features:

  • A stand alone third person action shooter created exclusively for the PSP that continues the Resistance saga in Europe.
  • An advanced third-person targeting system designed specifically for the PSP provides an unparalleled portable shooter experience.
  • Intense eight player multiplayer gameplay with five game modes including Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, Containment and Assimilation available via ad-hoc and infrastructure.
  • With Resistance Connect, you can plug your PSP into your PS3 with Resistance 2 and unlock additional features and content.
  • With Resistance: Retribution Plus, experience the game in a brand new way by using your DUALSHOCK 3 wireless controller.
  • Developed by the critically acclaimed Bend Studio using their 3rd generation PSP game engine.
  • Over 10 different types of enemies, including Chimera from Resistance 2 and Resistance: Fall of Man â€" including the Titan, Slipskull, Hybrids and Leapers â€" and all new enemies like the Hag and Cloven.
Game Modes
One of the things that sets Resistance: Retribution apart from other shooters on the PSP is the variety of ways to play. Along with a compelling singleplayer campaign it also comes packed with multiplayer options that wirelessly support up to eight players in both ad hoc and infrastructure configurations. Along with familiar modes such as Team Deathmatch and Capture the Flag, players will also enjoy two modes called Containment and Assimilation. In addition, players who have a PS3 and a copy of Resistance 2 will also have access to two additional modes, "Infected Mode" and "Resistance Retribution Plus" via the "Resistance Connect" game feature. To access Resistance Connect, players simply load their copies of Resistance: Retribution and Resistance 2, then connect your PSP system to your PS3. Once you’re connected, Resistance: Retribution becomes "infected."

Infected Mode
Infected Mode provides an alternate story within Resistance: Retribution. While in prison for desertion, James Grayson is recruited by Specter Lieutenant David LaSalle (from Resistance 2) and is infected with a mutated version of the Chimera virus, a different version of the virus than the virus that infects Nathan Hale. While playing in Infected Mode, Grayson wears a SRPA uniform and now has glowing Chimera eyes. Grayson now has regenerative health and can breathe underwater. The HE .44 Magnum from Resistance 2, which fires explosive rounds that can be triggered remotely becomes available as a weapon. An entirely new class of intelligence also becomes available that is hidden throughout the levels. Collecting all of the "infected" intel will unlock another Resistance 2 weapon, Plasma Grenades. In addition, thanks to your new Chimera DNA you will have access to areas of the game previously unavailable, as well as experience new AI interactions with the characters you meet through out the game play.

Resistance: Retribution Plus
Resistance: Retribution Plus allows you to play the game using your PS3's DUALSHOCK 3 controller, while adding dual analog stick controls and rumble support. Simply activate this feature through Resistance 2, and then play the game on your PSP screen or through your televisions using the available video out function. This mode increases the challenge level and disables aim assist, allowing you to experience the game in an entirely new way.

Best Game for the PSP so far (2009-04-06)
If you have to get just two games for the PSP get Resistance Retribution and God Of War Chains of Olympus. RR is a flawless game for the PSP, sometimes a little bit hard without "infecting" it but is worth it.

Great game! (2009-03-26)
Resistance Retribution is awesome.

I don't know how long it is. The action is just right. From the time I've played it, I will say if you like 3rd person shooters, this WILL entertain you for a long time.

Now, if they would introduce MAX PAYNE, FFVII, and PARASITE EVE to the PSP.

AS ONE GAMER SAID, THIS IS HALO ON THE PSP.IT IS THAT GOOD.....ENOUGH SAID.

This game rocks!! (2009-03-24)
This game is very good except for one thing i dont like. Some times when something insane is happening they barely talk and when they do its very soft so you cant hear anything! But this game is very fun and can be challenging. I also like the variety of weapons. So I would give this game a 9.9 if i could.

The best psp game ever made (2009-03-23)
I have had my psp for three or four years and it does not have many good games. For a long time monster hunter freedom 2 was my favorite game but this may have surpassed it. I haven't gotten half way through single player yet and i have never played multiplayer on psp before but this is a very good game. i am obsessed with this game! When i saw the first screenshots, i thought the graphics wouldn't be good but i was wrong!

A must have for Resistance and shooter fans alike!!! (2009-03-22)
I am a big fan of shooters and love my PSP, but have found very few decent portable games in this genre. I took a chance on this game because it was produced by the same guys that made the "Syphon Filter" PSP games (If you are not familiar with them they are very well reviewed, wonderful games.) I am so glad that I did.

This game is fantastic. I will briefly list the pros and cons.

The Pros:

1) You can carry more than two weapons again. One of the things that made Resistance: The Fall of Man so good was the plethora of unique weapons always at your fingertips. Resistance: Retribution reintroduces this feature. The player is able to carry up to 12 weapons each with an alternate fire option giving you much creative freedom is solving the challenges that the levels through at you.

2) The controls are well thought out and easily customizable. They work very well in the default configuration

3) The story is easy to follow and compelling.

4) The graphics are cutting edge for a portable game. They are stunning and really have to be seen to be appreciated.

5) There are "Skill Points" and "Intel" documents to collect on each level which allow you to unlock new weapons and additional features. Re-playability is very high for this reason.

6) "Infected mode" is an added value for owners of Resistance 2.

7) The "infrastructure" multiplayer feature allows you to connect wirelessly (via the internet) with players all around the world for what is arguably the best multiplayer experience on any handheld to date.

8) Resistance: Retribution "Plus" mode allows you to use a PS3 controller for PSP.

9) The difficulty scales well. I have not been overly frustrated with any part of this game.

The Cons:

1) The only thing that I would like to see improved is that in "Plus" mode, you PSP is tethered to your PS3 through the USB cable. I don't know if it is technically possible to do it any other way, but it certainly limits the portability of your PSP.
Conclusion: At the end of the day, Resistance: Retribution will be remembered as one of the games that defined this generation of handheld games. Any fan of the Resistance series, or of this genre for that matter, would be remiss in not picking this one up. It is an absolute must have.

Hmm, haven't I played this before? (2009-03-05)
Welcome to the Show '09.

New features from last year:

*Legends Mode: A very hard difficulty level, if All-Star was too easy for you.
*New Managerial Options: You can now enter 5-rule drafts, as well as deal with salary arbitrations. Also, different coaches now have different affects on players(batting coach, hitting coach, etc...)
*New Audio Options: Create Walk-Up to bat music, reliever entrance theme and more.

Those are the main ones. Of course, new rosters are there as well. However, this game is pretty much recycled as last year. In fact, 75% of it is the same as MLB Show '06!!! Obviously, most sports franchises are taking this approach, so I cannot fault them for that. However, it still puzzles me how in 4 years they haven't figured out how to reduce loading times. You still need to wait a good 30-45 seconds before a game starts and after it ends, which will annoy you if you like your game fast-paced and ready to go. Of course, that still can't take away that this is still the best baseball title for PSP, with great play-by-play and realistic on the field action, beautiful ballparks and the ability to create a player and live a career of a major leaguer.

The Bottom Line: If you are a hardcore fan of this franchise OR if you yet to own a baseball game for PSP, you can't go wrong with buying it. However, if you are a budget conscious gamer, you might as well stick with the previous title.

Great game, but not a lot of changes (2009-03-04)
I have owned the last 4 years of this game. While I know that they can't change a lot, and the technology/graphics for PSP are probably somewhat limited, can't they at least change the announcers scripts? It's the same exact content as the last few years, best I can tell.

Overall, still a great game. It's worth the $30 to upgrade in my opinion.

MLB2009 = MLB2008 v 2.0 (2009-03-04)
Corrects a lot of issues with 2008. The Online Roster Updates (dated March 1, 2009) is way behind with missing players and transactions that have been known for months. The overall game play has improved from 2008.....the Pitching meter is hard to see on PSP....the release marker is hidden by the blur of white....they need to make the release marker a different color or change the white color....4/5 stars!

Welcome to the Big Show. (2009-03-03)
MLB 09 The Show is a great game. Similar to last years version as far as graphics and game play. They have improved the AI in this game compared to last year. It is easier to hit homeruns. Unlike last years game where you can go 6 or 7 games without a homerun. Also they brought back the errors when you throw the ball or catch the ball. It is more realistic that way. They also have a lot of details to this game as far as signing free agents or negotiating with players. It is a great game and a must have for any baseball fan.
